CONNECT

The United Nations, or UN, is an international organization composed of countries from around the world. It was created after World War II in 1945, with the goal of promoting peace and global cooperation. The UN is based on principles such as equal rights and the self-determination of peoples.

The main function of the UN is to maintain international peace and security. This includes mediating conflicts between countries, providing humanitarian aid in crises such as natural disasters and armed conflicts, and promoting sustainable development worldwide.

Additionally, the UN works to protect human rights, promote justice, and strengthen international law. It addresses global issues such as climate change, public health, education, gender equality, and children’s rights.

The 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) state that to put the world on a sustainable path, it is urgently necessary to take bold and transformative actions. The SDGs constitute an ambitious to-do list for everyone, everywhere, to be fulfilled by 2030. If we meet these goals, we will be the first generation to eradicate extreme poverty and spare future generations from the worst adverse effects of climate change.

The 2030 Agenda is an invitation for everyone to embark on this collective journey.

ACTIVITY PROPOSAL

WINDMILL

A windmill, also known as a wind pump, is a structure that uses the power of the wind to generate energy. It consists of blades or sails that capture the wind and convert it into rotational movement. This movement is then used to grind grains, pump water, or generate electricity, depending on the type of mill.

Historically, windmills have been used worldwide for tasks such as grinding grains to make flour and pumping water for irrigation. They were an important innovation that helped agricultural societies increase their productivity and sustainability.

Nowadays, modern windmills are often used to generate electricity sustainably and renewably. They are a clean energy source that does not emit atmospheric pollutants, helping to combat climate change and promote a cleaner environment.
