The United Nations (UN) is an international organization founded on October 24, 1945, after World War II, with the aim of promoting peace, security, and cooperation among countries. Based in New York, the UN works to address global issues such as conflicts, poverty, human rights, and climate change.
The UN has several important parts that work together to achieve its goals:
• General Assembly: Brings together all 193 member countries to discuss and decide on global issues.
• Security Council: Maintains peace and security, with 15 members, including five permanent members (China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States) who have veto power.
• Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC): Promotes economic and social development.
• International Court of Justice (ICJ): Resolves disputes between countries and provides international legal opinions.
• Secretariat: Led by the Secretary-General, manages the daily work of the UN.
The goal of the UN is to:
1. Maintain international peace and security.
2. Develop friendly relations among nations.
3. Foster international cooperation.

ACTIVITY PROPOSAL
CYCLING
Riding a bicycle is an effective way to contribute to sustainability and is recognized by the UN as an important practice for sustainable development. Cyclists help reduce air pollution, decrease traffic, and save energy, as bicycles do not emit pollutants or depend on fossil fuels. Additionally, cycling promotes health, resulting in a healthier population and lower medical costs.
The UN supports the use of bicycles through the promotion of sustainable cities, encouraging the creation of proper infrastructure such as bike lanes and bike parking. It also helps reduce carbon dioxide emissions, aiding in the fight against climate change. Promoting cycling is part of the UN’s initiatives to improve public health and foster healthier lifestyles.
