Cultural Diversity

CONNECT

Cultural diversity refers to the different customs of a society, including clothing, cuisine, religious practices, traditions, and also differences in language, customs, accessories, tools, lifestyles, values, and forms of artistic expression.

The main contributors to Brazilian culture are European colonizers, the Indigenous population, and African slaves. Later, immigrants such as Italians, Japanese, Germans, Polish, Arabs, among others, also enriched Brazil’s cultural plurality.

Cultural diversity enhances and develops societies. It is essential to value and protect it, promoting mutual understanding and respect.

REFLECT

• What do you understand by cultural diversity?

• Are there students of different ethnicities at your school? Do they have the same customs as you?

• Do you know any utensils or accessories used by Indigenous peoples?

ACTIVITY PROPOSAL

WINDMILL

A windmill is a machine that uses the power of the wind to operate. It has large blades that spin when the wind blows. This spinning motion is used to do tasks like grinding grains, pumping water from the ground, or generating energy. Today, there are modern windmills called wind turbines that convert wind into electricity.

The motor in some of these windmills helps to turn the blades toward the wind or keep the windmill working when the wind is weak.

BUILD

As a team, build a prototype of a Motorized Windmill. Use the pieces available in the structural robotics technology kit. Follow each assembly step carefully and test the result. All team members should actively participate in the process and contribute with ideas and solutions.

CONTINUE

After building the prototype, share your experience with your classmates and answer the questions below.

  • Did you have any difficulties building the windmill?
  • Did the blades spin correctly?
  • Was the motor placed in the correct position?

Then, store all the materials used.
